Freedom of Information (State of Selangor) Enactment 2011 was formulated with its objective to enhance the externalization of information for public interest and to provide opportunities for every individual to access information provided by the Departments of the State Government through an application submitted to the relevant departments. This enactment was gazette on 25 August 2011 and came into force on March 5, 2013 with the consent of the Sultan of Selangor. Also, with effect from the same date are two (2) subsidiary legislations made by the State Local Authorities to support the provisions of this Act, namely, the Freedom of Information (State of Selangor) (Access to Information) Regulations 2012 and State Information Board (State of Selangor) Rules 2012.

Any member of the public and outside organization who wish to receive any information from the State Departments can do so in compliance with the following procedures: -

i.

Fill in and complete the Appliacation Form to Obtain Information as set out below;

ii.

Submit the Application Form to Obtain Information, which has been completed, by hand, to the relevant department together with a payment of RM12.00 (Ringgit Malaysia: Twelve Only), RM2 being for the application fee and RM10 for the porcessing fee, which are non-refundable;

iii.

Information Officers appointed for each department (as in the Information Officer List below) will process the applications and will provide the feed backs within 30 days from the date of acknowledgment of receipt of the application, for a normal application, or within seven (7) days of the date of acknowledgment of receipt of the application, if the application involves the life or freedom of the individual; and

iv.

If the application is approved, the applicant must pay the balance of the processing fee (if necessary) and will be given access to information applied in an appropriate means of access; and 

v.

If the application is denied, the applicant may appeal to the State Information Agency within 21 days of acknowledgement of the decision.
